When Is The Right Time To Replace Your Windows?

Whether you are looking to sell your home, lower your energy bill, or complete home improvements, it may be time to consider replacing your windows. But how do you know when it is the right time to replace your windows? Here are a few signs that indicate it is time to replace your windows. Be on the lookout for these warning signs before you end up with serious issues.

The first thing to do when determining when the right time is to replace your windows is check the window frames. Inspect the window frames and sills and check for any rot, decay, mold growth, or visible damage. Be sure to check both the inside and the outside of your windows when checking the frames and sills. The presence of any of these probably means it’s time to replace your windows.

It is also helpful to look at your energy bills. If your windows are drafty you will notice an increase in energy costs, both in the summer and winter. Drafty windows will force the heating system to work overtime in the winter to keep the house warm and will force the cooling system to work overtime in the summer to keep the house cool. If you notice a consistent increase in your energy bills it is probably time to see if there is a draft. One way to check for a draft is to check around the window frames to see if you can feel air coming in.

Another thing to consider is the operation of the windows. If it is difficult to open the windows, it may be time to replace them. If the windows are not closing easily and securely, then it may be time to update your windows.

The next thing to check is to see if you have single or double pane windows. This is not something you will need to check routinely but is just a one-time check. If you still have single pane windows in your home, it is probably time to replace your windows. Not only do single pane windows not offer any soundproofing, they also don’t offer proper insulation, and they are not energy efficient.

In order to avoid serious issues with your windows, routinely check for these warning signs as part of your regular home maintenance routine. If you see any of these signs, then it might be time to replace your windows. As your Tampa Bay window installation company, we know just how to help you through the entire process – start to finish!
